Former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner Placed Under House Arrest
Supreme Court upholds six-year corruption sentence with lifetime political ban
Former Argentine President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner has been placed under house arrest to serve a six-year sentence for corruption, following the Supreme Court's decision to uphold her conviction.
The 72-year-old, convicted in 2022 for directing overpriced public contracts to an ally during her presidency, is also permanently barred from holding public office.
Due to her age, a judge authorized her to serve the sentence at her Buenos Aires residence, monitored electronically.
The ruling has sparked protests among her supporters, who view the conviction as politically motivated, while President Javier Milei's administration has welcomed the court's decision.
